Frankfurt
Car Hire - As in any city, there are plenty
of car rental agencies to choose from. You can do
your research over the internet and also make the
reservation that way. As soon as you land in Frankfurt,
you can take off in your rental. If you plan on driving
on the Autobahn, remember there are sections of the
Autobahn that do have speed limits. It is also illegal
to run out of gas on the side road, and you will be
ticketed if this happens. Even though you have to
be 17 to legally drive in Germany, many companies
prefer the driver to be 25. Some companies rates are
higher for younger drivers and comparing each company
is always a smart idea.
Once in Frankfurt, you can pick
up your rental in the airport. All major companies
are located here and they do allow drop off of your
rental in different locations. This is great if you
plan on visiting other parts of Germany and departing
from another airport. Most companies do offer unlimited
mileage. Remember manual transmissions are more common
than automatic transmission in most of Europe.
In the Frankfurt International Airport,
you will find Alamo, Thirty, Dollar Rental, Budget,
Hertz and well the list goes on. Now some hotels have
their own rental agency located in the hotel. This
is a nice bonus because you may not want to rent a
car for your entire trip but just for a day trip outside
of Frankfurt. For over 45 years Argus Car Hire has
been renting cars in Europe. They have an office downtown
on Industriehof 3-5. There staff is multilingual and
you have your choice of cars from compact to luxury.
The National Alamo Rental Office
has two different locations downtown. On is located
on Escherscheimer Landstrasse 115. They charge less
for drivers that are over 25 years old. This office
is open Monday - Friday, 7:00 to 18:00. Saturday 8:00
to 12:00 and closed on Sunday. They also are closed
on major holidays. The other location is at Hanauer
Landstrasse 74-78. They keep the same hours. Weekend
rates tend to be higher than mid week rates in the
rental world.
If you are looking to compare all the rates from
different companies then try one of the many services
that make these comparisons online. They will compare
the major Car Rental Companies and
give you the best price. These services are wonderful
if you plan on reserving your car before your trip.
If you find yourself in the city and you want to rent
a car for a day or two, then ask your hotel for suggestions.
They may have a discount with a local rental agent.
You can also rent from Online Travel
websites and other online travel agencies. Sometimes
if you check out a company you may find specials or
discounts that you won’t find any other place.
All in all it is well worth checking out a number
of websites to get the best discounts.
Renting a Car in Frankfurt doesn’t
have to be stressful. Frankfurt is a wonderful city
to explore whether you use a car, public transportation
or your own feet. Booking a car allows you to maybe
explore a little more of Germany if you have the time.
