Frankfurt History - Frankfurt has been around since the 1st century and has been through many different rulers, and changes through out that time. While Frankfurt has suffered through World Wars, they have been able to regain their city. Now Frankfurt is used by many companies, banks and is a tourist area in Germany.

In the 1st Century AD, Frankfurt was founded by the Romans

Elections are held and Lothar II becomes king of the region

1240-1372, There are few imperial rulers and Frankfurt continues to change and grow

1372, Frankfurt becomes a Free Imperial City

1480, Frankfurt establishes the first Frankfurt Book Fair

1530, Brings the first book publishing presses

1562, Maximillian II is the new king

1769, French troops take Frankfurt in the Seven Years War

1816, The free city of Frankfurt joins the German League

1877-1914, Frankfurt starts to become a Modern Industrial City

1914, A University is opened in Frankfurt

1933, National Socialists take power in Germany

1936, The Airport is completed and opens

1943-1944, Frankfurt deals with daily allied air attacks and Frankfurt suffers major damage

1945, American Troops enter Frankfurt and take it over

1949, Book Fair begins again

1957, German Central Bank opens in downtown Frankfurt, many other large banks soon join the downtown area.

1980's -1990's, Frankfurt continues to grow and expand

1997, The largest skyscraper in Europe is completed

Now, Frankfurt is a tourist attractions in Europe and is visited by millions of business travelers and tourists yearly.
